My “Entrepreneurista” Challenge Day #5 – Failure Into Success

Every day, for at least 90 days, I’ll write on this blog on the topic of how to start a virtual assistant business and how to become a virtual assistant. I will share my experience of aspiring woman entrepreneur. I’m based in Paris, France. Being bilingual, I want to reach out to a global clientele and I am currently on the planning phase of my international online business, a virtual assistant business. I plan to launch it in March 2012.

This is the final post that talks about my background. I think knowing yourself and exploring your past failures, successes and current skills is an essential part of starting a business. I mean a business here, not a month-to-month job that you own. I believe that if you start a business that is meant to last you a lifetime (or at least you ideally plan for that), then you must clearly know who you are and what you want in life. I answered all these questions while working on myself in the past months so I can sum them up here today.

By reading my previous post, you probably guessed that my first virtual business is soon reaching its 4th year (in August 2012 actually) and so I’ve taken the decision to change my mindset completely about it. I know I’ll make big things happen for it this year and I want to do it right so I’m taking it slowly. In today’s post, I will share with you the most important rules I’ve learned in the last years. Let’s start with the single most important rule I’ve learned in 2011 and which will follow me for the rest of my life:

Get crystal clear on the expected outcome for any project you want to engage in!

Personally, it changed my vision on so many levels. I’m so grateful for having joined Marie Forleo’s group coaching program for this reason and for connecting with all the wonderful women in the group.

The second important rule I’ve learned in 2011 is to focus on creating a two-way value exchange. Thanks to Marie, I’ve discovered that the reason why I became resentful about pursuing my first virtual business’ dream goals was mostly because there was a point when my business was running me, I wasn’t running it anymore. I wasn’t seeing my purpose nor having fun anymore. Why? Because I didn’t work hard enough on properly setting up a two-way exchange of value, I just kept myself working and working without clearly stating what value, monetary or other, I was expecting in return to feel fulfilled along the way.

Overcome failure and turn it into success

As much as I felt depressed after realizing that I wasn’t meeting yet my dream goals for my virtual business, I made a point to understand where, how and why I failed so that in the future I can turn everything I start into success. As a result, this “failure” in my life has taught me more than any other projects I’ve ever engaged in about myself, my working style, my core values and my expectations for anything I enggage in; without talking about all the new marketable skills that I have acquired since then!

As Albert Einstein puts it:

“Insanity is doing the same thing, over and over again, but expecting different results.”

I knew change was in order. And it’s for 2012.

So that’s about it – now you know who I am:

  • My name: Nadine
  • My age: 23
  • My location: near Paris, France
  • My past activities: launched my first virtual business 3 years and a half ago, a virtual fashion PR Agency
  • My current job: freelance writing/webdesign
  • My future plans: blog “live” and daily my experience on how to start a virtual assistant business and how to become a virtual assistant for an international clientele

I now feel that I’ve reflected on everything my experience as a freelancer and an online entrepreneur taught me.

While I’m thrilled to keep working on my first virtual business to reach the dream goals I have for it in 2012 – after all, it’s thanks to this project that I kept on improving my WordPress and internet marketing skills – I now want to dedicate my life to help women entrepreneurs create successful and profitable online businesses right from the start. You know what, I can get physically sick hearing about women entrepreneurs who start online businesses making the exact same mistakes that I have made when running my virtual business. They are willing to learn and they are excited but it’s just not enough – I know from experience that you have to set a very solid business foundation before even thinking about opening any business (real world-based or online-based). This is what I will do for my very own business this year.

In other words, I do not wish for anybody to spend years doing the same mistakes I have made and my goal is to determine success principles, methods and tools that are proven to lead a path to entrepreneurship success. On my journey of starting a virtual assistant business and becoming a virtual assistant specializing in social media marketing and internet marketing, I will use top online resources on these two specific topics, but also more general, online marketing-oriented success-driven programs such as Marie Forleo’s B-school program (I will use all the modules of the program that are waiting for me patiently since last year). I’m so excited about it!

Now, I feel ready for it.

As promised in my previous post, here are the 4 main reasons why I have decided to come and write here every day for at least the next 90 days:

  1. Prove my expertise: I will provide you with tips and tricks on WordPress, Social Media Marketing and Internet Marketing throughout my daily posts
  2. Have a virtual accountability buddy: I will set clear deadlines for the different phases of my business venture and work on meeting them thanks to this blog (and you, my reader!)
  3. Check the evolution of my virtual assistant business: I want to explore with you the various ideas I have for my virtual assistant business and be able to look back in the next months to see how my ideas and expectations evolved since its inception
  4. Share my knowledge and experiences: I would like to show you how I start my virtual assistant business, the struggles and joys I meet as I do it
  5. BONUS GOAL: I hope to inspire and connect with fellow virtual assistants and online business managers as I personally would have loved to find a blog reporting in “real time” how to start a virtual assistant business and how to become a virtual assistant and then upgrade to an online business manager role by someone who goes step by step through the process and talks about it
I’ll now tell you my life’s purpose…

I have been reflecting on my life as a whole and I came to a very clear conclusion.

There were times in my life when I had lost complete faith in myself, in my skills, in my ability to reach my dream goals. But now that I’ve mastered my existing skills, gained brand new, marketable ones and received rave reviews from past and existing clients, I know my worth and I embrace it. I simply never settle for less than I deserve. I do not plan on ever going back to these painful situations again.

My “why”, my purpose, is to empower women around the world to become financially independent and self-sufficient, helping them to experience continuous success in their entrepreneurial journey.

Tomorrow, I’ll talk further about my virtual assistant business idea and the top resources I’ve gathered online on this topic.
